Antioch Marina - SF Bay Water Trails

Antioch Marina officially part of SF Bay Area Water Trails

The Antioch Marina is now officially a designated site on the San Francisco Bay Area Water Trails. The Water Trail is a regional program that encourages non-motorized small boaters to safely enjoy the San Francisco Bay.

The San Francisco Bay Area Water Trail is a growing network of boat launching and landing sites, or β€œtrailheads,” around the San Francisco Bay. The Water Trail’s network of sites encourages awareness of facilities, programs, rental concessions,Β  and other information to help non-motorized small boaters and board sailers have safe enjoyable days on the Bay.

The Water Trail is unique among the trails found in the Bay Area. It is not a linear trail, but a network of launching and landing sites that can take you to iconic and incredible destinations onΒ the San Francisco Bay and its major tributaries – the San Joaquin River, the Napa River, and the Petaluma River.

Some locations offerΒ nature and solitude with opportunities to see a huge variety of birds and wildlife, others offer dynamic urban waterfronts with incredible sights and views. Each trailhead enables non-motorized small boat users to enjoy the historic, scenic, cultural, and environmental richness of San Francisco Bay and its nearby tributary waters.Β  With over 500-square miles of navigable waters, the San Francisco Bay and its tributaries are the Bay Area’s largest open space. The possibilities are limitless.

Kayakers and paddle boarders can now easily launch themselves from one of two “Cadillac” kayak launches at the Antioch Marina, the first of it’s kind in Contra Costa County.Β The first launch site is located next to the boat ramp and the second launch can accommodate two kayaks or canoes at one time.Β Along with the two kayak launches, new amenities include storage facilities for water recreation such as kayaks, paddle boards and canoes.Β  The 10 storage racks can accommodate up to 20 kayaks and is a convenience for kayakers or paddle boarders who want to come ashore and use Antioch Marina’s facilities.Β  All new amenities were made possible by the $31,835 grant from the Coastal Conservancy achieved by the countless hours of hard work put in by Harbor Master James Pflueger and Sandra Kelly, Antioch Parks and Recreation Commission.

“We’re really pleased to be able to dedicate theΒ Antioch Marina officially into the (San Francisco Bay) water trail. This really is one of the great kayak places in the entireΒ state so come on out and check out the facilities.” said Ben Botkin, Planner for the San Francisco Bay Area Water Trail.Β  Β The kayak launches are FREE to the pubic and we encourage everyone to try them out and explore everything the Delta has to offer.
