For the second year, Panther Tails is a runaway hit. Pairing Antioch High School’s cross country team with Antioch Animal Shelter dogs, the program features the students taking shelter dogs out for a run in Antioch’s Historic Downtown. On Sept. 29, the 50-some runners took eight tail-wagging pups for a jog, and will do this weekly through the cross country season. Chief Tammany Brooks was on hand to thank the students and applaud their work, while several officers joined in to greet the runners.  It’s a win-win-win: Students are doing volunteer work, dogs are getting socialized, exercised and exposed, and the Antioch Police Department is leading community engagement. The program is coordinated by Antioch Police Department Lt. Tarra Mendes and AHS coach Lisa Cuza. For more info on how to adopt, visit http://www.shelterme.com/AntiochAnimalServices
