REBECCA QUINONES, Antioch High, Careers in Teaching

  • How long have you taught your CTE class and what is it officially called? I have been teaching the class since 2018.
  • How many classes of this do you have? It is officially called Careers in Teaching and I have one class per year.
  • Whatโ€™s your favorite aspect of this class? My favorite aspect is seeing my students applying what they have learned in the class to their internships and to their daily lives.
  • How do you think students will benefit from taking this course? Students will benefit in many ways. For one, it is not a class just for students who want to become teachers. CIT students learn about child development, the psychology of behavior, human interactions and more. Besides benefitting them in these ways, students will also earn college credits if they earn a B or better in the class. Plus, they will experience the joy of working with children. They also earn CPR and AED certifications, which many have expressed as being another highlight of the class for them.
  • Can you name a top CTE moment, project or student engagement youโ€™ve had? My favorite moments are seeing how nervous my students are when they begin their internships but having them come back to class so excited and telling each other their stories. At the end of the year, it is quite emotional seeing my students cry when they say goodbye to their students for the last time. It is a beautiful thing to see what an impactful experience this class is for my students.
