John Vander Kamp was raised in a Dutch household where a “kopje thee” (cup of tea) was the traditional beverage. As an adult he became an ardent coffee drinker until he was re-introduced to tea some twenty-five years ago. Since then he has studied the history, art and science of tea cultivation, and prepared thousands of cups of fresh, loose tea for charitable- and private events. His talk, accompanied by tastings, will cover the discovery of tea and how its popularity spread from Asia to the Western World. He will also talk about tea’s many health properties and how it is now threatened by economic and climatic conditions.
