CCCO presents: Brits & Brahms

April 15, 2023 @ 2:00 pm

Brits and Brahms:
A Timely Message of Hope with Richard Andaya, cellist
Come hear the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra perform three spectacular pieces that explore
humanity’s ability to thrive despite hard times. This cathartic experience will begin with the
youthful and light-hearted Brook Green Suite by Gustav Holst. Then, attendees will tumble into Sir
Edward Elgar’s passionate Cello Concerto in E Minor, in which Elgar vividly expresses his
disillusionment following World War I. Finally, the sun will shine through as Brahms’s Symphony
No. 2 in D Major brings a heartfelt optimism. Brahms’s subtle blending of more serious themes
paints a realistic picture of life’s ups and downs–and suggests a healthy response to the challenges
that come our way.
As this meaningful concert marks the end of the CCCO’s 2022-2023 season, beloved conductor
Geoffrey Gallegos sums up the timely message of the program as “fond farewells and optimistic new
beginnings.”
