Antioch Police Youth Academy

2020 Antioch Police Department Youth Academy

What is a Youth Academy?

The Youth Academy is a unique experience for participants, aged 14-18 years of age to meet the officers and employees who protect and serve our community in a relaxed and non-threatening environment. Participants will have the opportunity to experience some of the activities officers and department personnel perform as part of their duties. Hands-on experiences include fingerprinting, scenarios and problem-solving activities. Participants will also interact with our k-9’s and their handlers, have an opportunity to go on a ride-a-long with an officer as well as observe our dispatch center in action.

How are participants chosen?

Space in the Youth Academy is limited to 40 students. Interested parties must complete an application and submit it to the Antioch Police Department prior to the deadline. Applicants will then be invited to participate in an oral interview. After the interview, applicants will be chosen based on their suitability for the program and ability to pass a cursory background.

What will I learn in the Youth Academy?

Participants will learn in a hands-on environment about Dispatch, Person and Property Crime Investigations, Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), SWAT, Hostage Negotiation, Traffic Stops, K-9’s, Scenario based problem solving and much more. Each day will provide a new experience modeled after the Police Academy. Students will come away from the experience with a better understanding of Law Enforcement.
